The Birth Pause

The "Birth Pause" is one of the most beautiful moments of integration after birth for mother and baby. I first heard of the "Birth Pause" from midwife and educator, Karen Strange. She spoke of the natural sequence of birth when it is left undisturbed...Connection-Rupture-Rest-Repair.

The "Birth Pause" is in the Rest stage. It is the moment in which a mother comes back into her body after the work of birthing her baby. She exhales the birth, and then in her own time begins to inhale the presence of her baby and her new identity as Mother. Repair.

Unrushed, filled with purpose, trust, and love, this moment is one we choose to honor for our mamas and babies.

The Golden Hour

The Golden Hour is defined as the baby being skin-to-skin on the mother for an uninterrupted hour immediately following birth. In reality, it is so much more than this. Experiencing labor and birth is exhausting on both the mother and baby. It is the hardest work that the body (and the baby) has ever performed. Studies show that sharing the Golden Hour reduces the stress levels of both mother and baby.
