Placenta Encapsulation

What is placenta encapsulation and why do people do it?

Consumption of the placenta is also known as placentophagy. This practice dates back to ancient times and is still common in certain cultures today. The placenta is perfectly created by your body to nourish your baby during pregnancy. Placenta encapsulation allows you all the benefits of the placenta in a more palatable way.

Benefits for encapsulation

  1. The placenta contains high levels of prostaglandin which stimulates shrinking the uterus.

  2. The placenta contains small amounts of oxytocin which eases birth stress and can decrease chances for postpartum depression.

  3. Consuming the placenta causes the smooth muscles around the mammary cells to contract and eject milk, which means better breast milk production!

The midwives of Blooming Birth Company do not encapsulate placentas in-house, but we have relationships with some wonderful women who do, so do not hesitate to let us know you are interested so we can get you connected to the right encapsulator for you!
